WHM HOSTS GBN EVENT FEATURING ELI PARISER, AUTHOR OF THE FILTER BUBBLE
Are “good” and “business” mutually exclusive? Sometimes it seems that way. But we want to make things better. That’s why we founded the Good Business Network back in 2005, a networking group that promotes good corporate business practices in the Bay area. And why we continue to keep good company with reputable companies like Clif Bar, Hewlett-Packard, and eBay.
You may have heard of something called the Filter Bubble, a term coined by Internet activist Eli Pariser, describing the phenomenon and subsequent dark side of personalized search results. The Good Business Network had the pleasure of hosting the TED speaker himself, in a discussion of his best-selling book The Filter Bubble: What the Internet Is Hiding From You this past spring, at Book Passage at the Ferry Building in San Francisco.
Eli led an animated conversation about how the hidden, rampant, and pervasive rise of Internet personalization works, why it matters to individuals and organizations alike, and what we can do to escape the isolation of our filter bubbles and ensure access to information that fosters creativity, innovation, and democratic exchange of ideas.
